When I was a teenager I suffered a traumatic brain injury when I was in a car accident. I was in a coma for a couple of months and in the hospital and all kinds of rehab therapy for nearly a year. I could not walk, talk, eat, use the bathroom, etc by myself. At first I could not even hold my head up or sit up!

I had to relearn all basic tasks through hours of therapy. I finally learned to walk on my own (I went from a wheel chair to a walker to a cane to holding onto walls or furniture). I was not able to run(jog) for years! After therapy, I continued to practice on my own and taught myself to make my body move in a running motion.

I have spent many hours practicing, sweating, in frustration (pain), and celebrating! I have finished bout 6- 5Ks and absolutely love jogging in my neighborhood or on the beach where I now live. Although I’m by no means an elite runner who is training or even “good,” I am doing my personal best! I enjoying moving and getting my brain and body working together.
